National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH)

For school leaders who are, or are aspiring to be, a headteacher, Principal or head of school with responsibility for leading a school.

  • Duration: 18 Months 

  • Modules: 4 (each 12 weeks study time) 

  • Face to Face and Webinar Hours: 32 hours for whole course 

  • Online Learning Hours: 53 hours for whole course (1-2 hours per week) 

  • Coaching Hours: 6 hours for whole course 

  • Assessment: Summative case study at the end of the course

How will I study?

Our courses offer a blend of approaches to study: 

  • Face to face facilitated workshops 

  • Online facilitated live webinars 

  • Online study, including engagement with research, opportunities to tackle scenarios, individually reflect and collectively contribute to discussion activities 

  • Work with a coach 

What will I study?

This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to make evidence informed decisions about school leadership. You will be confident in leading others to develop their practice, and skilled at implementing sustainable change across a range of areas like classroom practice, behaviour and culture, organisational management and working in partnership with others. 

Modules

The course is comprised of four modules over 18 months. Each module lasts 12 weeks. The modules cover all of the ‘learn that and learn how to’ statements from the NPQ Headship Framework Document. 

Module 1: Teaching, Curriculum and Assessment 

Module 2: Behaviour, Additional and SEND 

Module 3: Organisational management, Working in Partnership, and Governance and Accountability 

Module 4: Professional Development and Implementation

How will I be assessed? 

There are two success criteria for the course: 

  • Participation in at least 90% of the course 

  • Successfully pass the summative case study assessment 

The summative assessment requires you to answer three questions in response to a case study. The assessment windows are set at the start of your course and there is an 8-day period to complete the assessment.
